SEDA Green Drinks (Edinburgh) March 2015
SEDA Green Drinks (Edinburgh)
Thursday 5th March 2015, 5.00pm start.
Materials night: New forms, better use? Presentations and discussion.
Venue" The Sydney Smith Lecture Theatre, Old Medical School, Bristo Place
An informal presentation and discussion of what can be achieved with new low-carbon materials, and how we can understand what 'Green materials' represent in reality. Featuring research into a new structural / facing brick developed to high ecological standards, presented by the developement team of John Easton of SUSTaim and Heriot Watt University. "...Suitable for internal and external load-bearing and “facing” applications, the unfired earth eco-bricks have excellent sustainability credentials in terms of low energy input, over 80% of recycled content and no waste. When incorporated into a building, they give thermal mass and acoustic insulation, inhibit condensation and regulate humidity of the atmosphere... with a pleasant organic finish that does not require painting or surface treatment."
The research team are looking for feedback on their proposals, and will answer questions on the research, and we will also put together a panel to discuss what makes succesful, and useful, green innovations. Is it all about the CO2 emissions, the price, the buildabaility, or the feel of the material?
Refreshments will be served during the discussion, and to fully comply with greendrinks policy, all attendees are invited to a nearby pub after to carry on discussions and get the low down with any speakers or others in the audience.
We will make a request for donations to SEDA of £3 for members and £5 for non members, and refreshments will be free.
