Campaigning Architects in Scotland: Meet ACAN
5.30pm - 7.30pm 29 July
A free event to meet key people from the Architects Climate Action Network, and discuss a possible Scottish ACAN group
SEDA are always looking for connections to other groups who are pursuing similar aims, and some of our active members have already made connections with English based ACAN, who were set up in 2019 by young architects mostly in London to try to get the the architectural profession to truly address issues around the climate crisis.
They have been running a series of campaigns to try and stir up things on a several fronts, from architectural education, measuring of embodied carbon, getting a level playing field for refurbs, and more. Their manifesto demands we Decarbonise Now, for Ecological Regeneration and Cultural Transformation! You can find more at:
https://www.architectscan.org/home
and in particular their campaign to improve sustainable design teaching:

Many of these issues SEDA and its members have been working on, or trying to raise awareness of, already for some time, and much of what we do could help support particular campaigns, and we are sure many members will want to find out more and how they can be involved. Of course, much of the current outputs are aimed at the English situation, and it seems to us there is room for a group here that can co-ordinate the Climate Activists, of whatever level in the Scottish Architectural world, to do a similar job.
So ACAN have approached SEDA to organise an evening where you will be able to meet some of their key campaigners and organisers, find out about what they are doing and planning, and ask them questions. This will be open to all in designers with an interest, not just architects or SEDA members, and there will be an opportunity to discuss what the best form is for a Scottish campaigning group to address our policies and issues, and how that could co-ordinate with the other sections, with ACAN potentially being set up in other countries as well now.
A full timetable will follow but please join us from 5.30pm, for a start by 6.00, to be done by 7.30.
If you haven't already completed the survey to gauge interest in setting up a Scottish form of ACAN, please follow this link and complete the survey:
