SEDA BUILD
Exciting things have been happening through SEDA Build and we are excited to share more information about our recent activities and resources.
The Bridgend Team Bothy
More resources and information will follow soon, but until then, we are sharing these videos showcasing the amazing live build Bridgend Eco Bothy project, driven forward over the past several years by Bridgend Inspiring Growth (BIG) in Edinburgh, supported and enabled by SEDA. A number of SEDA members have worked on the project at different stages including John Gilbert Architects, Oisa Designs, Emma Donnelly and Arleen Sinclair, to make it happen. In the main build phase, the final design and the main timber work were organised by Duncan Roberts, and the volunteers and site were led throughout by Simon Hackin. BIG organised a team of determined volunteers who built the whole building from the ground up under the guidance of Simon and the team, and in October last year handed the Bothy over, and is now in use as a self contained outdoor education room, adjacent to the main community centre.
Over a hundred volunteers have been involved, and have learnt key skills in ecological building, a number of which has led to employment and qualifications. It has also helped create a real community round the project, that can serve as a learning resource into the future, to demonstrate eco building using timber frames, straw bales, lime render and more.
BIG have been transforming Bridgend Farm into a community owned centre for learning, resources and a place for the community to come together for a number of years and have achieved so much in that time. Huge credit is due to Will Golding and his team who never gave up in the face of delays, and repeatedly finding new funding sources.
