From gaming to fiscal reform

Gail Halvorsen looks back over 2024 and forwards to 2025

2024 was an exciting year for SEDA Land. We ran four events with our Scottish Government grant. We also ran another keynote event at GO Falkland and completed the beta version of the digital game "Stone & Veil”.

Disappointingly, we weren't awarded the Scottish Government grant for 2024-5 because they moved the goalposts without telling us!

We didn't hold any of our two-hour online Conversations but we do intend to run two in the first half of 2025. One will look at ways of reconfiguring the Scottish tax system in ways that benefit communities and the environment. The other will be the fourth in our bioproducts series, trying to broaden the debate.

Agile Homes invited SEDA Land to collaborate on the Radical Housing Conference 2025, which is being held in Scotland for the first time. This will have three parts, the first being an online day – please see the save the date poster below. The second is an in-person event to be held at Birnam Arts, Dunkeld and a final summing up is to be held at the Architecture Fringe in Edinburgh.

Some of you may be aware of the tragic demise of Rural Housing Scotland this autumn. We will try in a small way to step into their shoes (although our event will also address urban housing).

A Green Careers Fair, to be held at the University of Glasgow in September 2025, is a new venture for us – a careers fair with a difference.

More details about all of these will follow shortly.

If anyone would like to become involved in any of these events, or has any ideas for other events, please let me know. And finally, if anyone is aware of any funding streams that might be suitable to SEDA Land please let me know. We will be looking for a large amount of funding for the alpha version of "Stone & Veil” and have already made two applications for this.

Merry Christmas!
