About Us
Who we are
SEDA-Solar was formally constituted in May 2020. Our core group consists of Gloria Lo, Prof Colin Porteous, Puiwah Wong, Fiona McLennan, George Goudsmit and Rosalee Menon. The predecessor of SEDA-Solar was Scottish Solar Energy Group (SSEG). SSEG was formed in 1979 by a group of solar energy enthusiasts to promote solar energy and its applications in Scotland. It was a voluntary not-for-profit membership organisation aimed to share knowledge on solar energy through activities such as seminars, visits and competitions. The Kerr MacGregor Award for Solar Innovation is in memory of one of the founders. Since SSEG’s establishment over 40 years ago where solar energy was still nascent, solar energy is now a popular renewable energy source in Scotland and worldwide. As such, the initial objectives of SSEG is thought to be fulfilled. The organisation now moves onto a new chapter by joining force with SEDA to form SEDA-Solar. It is hoped that through this new platform, synergistic cooperation could be achieved bringing awareness on solar energy and sustainable design to a new level, corresponding to the rapidly evolving landscape in Scotland and worldwide.
